Volunteers needed for April 26 Great American Clean up

Jennifer Wallace, Executive Director of Norwood’s Recreation Commission, spoke to council last night as part of her campaign to recruit community members to pitch in and help with their annual Great American Clean up of our parks. Click here for Recreation’s web site, then click on “Parks” for a complete listing all our parks. Ms. Wallace said she will be handing out flyers about the event at Recreation’s Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday (see 3/6/08 blog below) in an effort create more awareness about the need for volunteers. Last night, she got one volunteer right away when Councilperson Joe Sanker said he would lead the clean up of Northwoods Park. If you can lend a helping hand on Saturday, April 26th, please call Recreation at 531-9798. Operators are standing by!

Following is more detail in the letter from Ms. Wallace to City Council that was read aloud at last night’s meeting.

February 25, 2008

Dear Madam President and members of Council,

The annual Great American Clean up is set for Saturday, April 26, 2008. This is when we ask for volunteers to help clean up the parks and other areas of our community. This year, Recreation has a special project for the clean up. We will need volunteers to help us at J.B. Wirth-Waterworks Pool. We have some minor repairs, painting and landscaping that we would like to complete to improve this pool. On July 21st and 22nd Norwood Recreation will be hosting the NSSL Swim League Championships with about 2,500 to 3,000 people from other cities attending this event. If you would like to help with this project or to clean up another park or city area, please give us a call to sign up. We appreciate everyone who helps.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Wallace
Executive Director,
Norwood Recreation Commission
