Spirit of Christmas at the Norwood Police Dept.

Yesterday we spoke with the NPD’s Lt. Tom Williams about a tip we received from Officer Dungan telling us about a new Christmas gift-giving project spearheaded by Sgt. Dwayne Summer. Springing from a strong desire to give back to our community, Norwood police officers took $1,000 from their union’s Wage and Benefit Committee Fund so that five local families in need would have an abundant Christmas this year. Lt. Williams told us the five families were referred by local agencies, and each was allocated $200 in gifts. Working from a list of the families’ needs and wants, the officers did all the shopping themselves; and yesterday they distributed the gifts to all five households. Additionally, Walmart is donating full Christmas meals to the families. We applaud our men and women in blue for making Christmas very merry for some of our neighbors.
