Whiz Kids: Help Sharpsburg attain ODE Excellent rating

Guest blog by Sandra Kelley

If you know how to read (and since you are reading this, you qualify!), and you are willing to spend an hour or so a week with an elementary school student, we'd love to have you join us as a VOLUNTEER tutor at Sharpsburg Elementary.

Whiz Kids is a reading literacy tutoring program that connects caring adults with kids who need some extra guidance in reading and life. As an adult tutor, you would be matched with a specific child that you would meet with each Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at Sharpsburg Elementary. All materials are provided, there is no preparation required on your part. You come, help your child read the provided book, do a few games, help with homework, etc. Training is provided up front.

Whiz Kids is a great way to give back to your community. Many of the students come from single parent homes where adult time is limited. Many of the tutors form strong connections with their students and go on to mentor them as well.

The program will begin Tuesday, September 27th at 4:00pm. For more information, please contact Sandra Kelley at illinikelley@yahoo.com or you can sign up to volunteer at:
